Sunnies Style Game for the Frugalista

Step Ahead for Spring

Sunnies Style Game for the Frugalista

If you have checked out my blog at all over the last few weeks, you know that I am willing Spring to get here.  Like, I am getting on my hands and knees each night and having a good ole fashioned begging session with God to make it happen.  Ya feel me?!?

So, lately I’ve been in an everything-spring-and-summer mood.  And this post is no different.  Here goes…

One of the questions I get asked the most is where I get my sunglasses…and I always love to tell people that I never pay more than $ 10 for any that I own.

Even Target is too expensive for my sunglasses game, folks.  I often refer to this as sunnies for the Frugalista.  Where my fellow Frugalistas at?!?

If you are anything like me, sunglasses are the last accessory you think about, and you tend to lose, or destroy them by accident, on the regular…

Since I am well-known to sit on, lose or completely destroy a pair of sunglasses, I have to be very thrifty when on the hunt for a new pair.  But even though they may be the last accessory I consider when getting dressed, I do admit that sunnies may be one of the biggest opportunities to show off your style game.

At any given time, I have at least five pair of sunglasses ready to go in the event that the pair I walked out the door with this morning somehow did not return with me that evening.  And since none of them are more than $ 10, I would say that’s a pretty good bargain!

These are a few of my best tips for finding inexpensive, yet still stylish, sunnies:

(1) Shop end of season sales – right now most retailers are slashing prices on their websites to make way for the brand new spring and summer looks to arrive starting next week.  So, check out places like Banana Republic, Nordstrom, and department stores for killer deals!.   Also, Shop for sunnies on special sale days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  Since sunglasses are typically fairly inexpensive in the first place, they are SUPER affordable on these massive sale days.;

(2) Shop for sunnies at Forever21 and Charming Charlie.  Even if you don’t wanna rock the fashion from these two stores, you can totally rock their sunnies.  I have been buying mine from both of these places and can attest that even though they are very inexpensive, they hold up well! (In fact, Charming Charlie has a 2 for $15 sale going on right now!!!); and

(3) Pharmacies.  I know, this sounds crazy.  But, pharmacies are my GO-TO for cheap sunnies (and lipstick, by the way…).  Plus, if you provide your telephone number and sign up for their rewards programs, you can score even bigger savings on items such as sunglasses and makeup!

Here are some of the ones I’ve been rocking lately (and by lately I mean in 2017 – let’s get real ain’t nobody wearing shorts in the last 3 months!!)… [At the time of this post I am proud to announce that I actually have not broken any of these or lost any of them.  Well, I am not completely sure where the dark brown ones are in this very moment, but my best guess is at the bottom of one of my purses…]

Without further ado, here are my top picks to get you Spring / Summer ready, girlfriend!:

Winter to Spring Shoe Must Haves

Winter to Spring Shoe Must Haves

Y’all.  We may finally be exiting the worst stage of winter.

PRAISE THE LORD OH MY SOUL AND ALL THAT IS WITHIN ME!

It’s not a huge secret that I hate winter… Who is WITH ME?!?

SO, I always try to find ways to make Winter less miserably cold and dreary…by ramping up my shoe game!

This year I found a few pairs that are perfect for now AND later when the temps begin to rise…

Shoes: NY & Company

If I could design a dream shoe, these pink velvet bow pumps would be it.

They are also very comfortable and ONLY $ 16.99, so what’s not to love?

Next up, black pom poms…because who’s really surprised there?

Shoes: NY & Company

If you love faux fur, you will be head over heels for these bad boys.  Plus, they are only $ 19.99 – can you even deal?!?

Next up, leopard to take any look up a notch!

Shoes: Forever21

Now, for all my fellow Southern Belles, when I saw this next pair, I was in a hard core swoon until I got them on my feet!

I realize a monogram isn’t for everyone, so rest assured that you can order these without one, no problem!

Shoes: Marley Lilly

And finally, my favorite little bright pink flats.  I find ways to wear these every week because they just bring a smile to my face.

Shoes: Red Dress Boutique

A Guide for the Southern Belle Snowbird

#FabFriYAYFive

A Guide for the Southern Belle Snowbird

Y’all I am cold.

Like, my bones are cold.  And, all I want to do is escape to a desert somewhere.  Or wherever it is not 20 degrees or below. HA!

So, let’s take a glance at what we have to look forward to here in a few months when we can finally escape the tundra!

It is officially resort season … aka that time of year when snowbirds flood our newsfeeds with jealousy-inducing photos of their Sports Illustrated cover edition sun tans.

Why can’t that be me and you this year, sister?

If you have a warm getaway approaching, OR you just want to stock up to get yourself excited for summer…today’s post is for you.

Side note: did you know that fashion lines typically roll out resort wear collections in late October?  These lines include warm weather wear, swimsuits, beach accessories, etc.  All the happy things.  I will let you in on a little secret, NY & Company puts out one of my favorite resort collections every single year.  They surprisingly don’t advertise these lines well enough, but they come out with one every year.  I actually enjoy their resort collections sometimes better than their every day lines.  They are amazing.  So, be on the lookout for them and stock up on Black Friday next year!

DISCLAIMER: All of the items below are monogrammed, because well #SouthernBelle.  BUT, you can get all of these items without a monogram if you prefer a more subtle beach look 😉

Finally, Marley Lilly (the shop where you can find all of these items) is simply amazing.  If you are on the hunt for monogrammed goods, I suggest Marley Lilly or Swoozies! Happy shopping!

Ok, on to this season’s cute finds…

(1) Pineapple Jewelry Pouch – Nothing is worse than a sandy diamond ring, or sea-salt stained gold bangle.  Am I right, friends?  So, I searched high and low for an extra cute option for all us Southern Belles…and stumbled upon possibly the cutest beach bag addition since forever.

Photo: MarleyLilly

(2) Insulated Cups – My love for Tervis Tumbler may be my strongest material love.  Nah.  Nevermind.  This girl is all about the purses and shoes.  BUT, I LOVE a good Tervis.  Nothing I’ve found does a better job of insulating your beverage and I love the texture of the cups.  Check these out if you need a fun cup for the beach…remember the “no glass” rule 😉

Photo: MarleyLilly

(3) Coordinating Pom Pom Accessories – If you’ve been in our little tribe for long, you know that I am unabashedly obsessed with pom pom anything.  Heck I would put a pom pom trim on my microwave if it wasn’t distasteful.  This hat and bag combo will have you turnin’ heads all the while shielding you from the sun’s harmful rays and keepin your pineapple jewelry bag (above) safe and secure 😉

Photo: MarleyLilly

Hat: HERE

Tote: HERE

(4) Clear Makeup Bag – I love this thing whether I’m headed to the beach or not!  Plus, you could totally use this for game days since most stadiums have now introduced a clear bag rule. SCORE!

Photo: MarleyLilly

(5) Pineapple Sandals – Keeping with the pineapple theme, how adorable are these sandals?  The monogram on these is subtle and the threading is divine.

Boucle All Day

#WardrobeWednesday

Boucle All Day

Dress: Red Dress Boutique

Sunnies: J Crew Outlet

I’m not gonna lie, friends.  This cold weather is gettin’ pretty old for this southern belle.

I thrive in that 70 degree range where I can get away with a cute dress during the day and layered up at night.

Oh well, we must work with what we are given! 🙂

I bought this dress the second I saw the boucle material.

Boucle happens to be one of my all time favorite materials, and this color was a neutral I didn’t have currently hanging in my closet.

Plus, who doesn’t love those flirty ruffle details?!?

Purse: Francesca’s

Shoes: DSW

Sunnies: J Crew Outlet

I paired this dress with my fave stud heels and tortoise shell sunnies to give it few extra pops, but laid low on the jewelry.

This dress is a bit short for church, but would be perfect for a night out or a party with friends!

The material is so cozy, it feels like you are wearing a big sweater or blanket!

A Guide for the Southern Belle Snowbunny

#FabFriYAYFive

A Guide for the Southern Belle Snowbunny

The nation is currently experiencing some of the coldest temperatures ever recorded.

And your girl is two degrees away from frostbite.

In fact, my children are turning into snowflakes up in here!

Sorry.  I was cleaning out closets this weekend and had to…forgive me?!?

Today, we are talkin’ about the girl who thrives in the chilly weather and even finds a way to rock out style-wise as well.

Here are my top 5 must haves for the Southern Belle Snowbunny!

(1) Quilted Coat – Quilting and monogramming and fur OH MY!  This is a Southern Belle’s literal winter dream.  With all the details that we southern belles go silly for, this coat needs to be next on your winter outerwear list 😉  I would order mine WITHOUT the monogram in this instance…I KNOW, I KNOW.  I am in danger of losing my Southern Belle Gold Star if I do, but I think the beauty of this coat stands alone and the mono takes away from the beautiful quilting! But you do you, sister!  No matter what you do, just bundle up!!

Photo: Marley Lilly

(2) Plaid Tote – Is there any print more quintessentially winter than a good plaid?

Answer: No ma’am. 😉

This tote is everything.  It seems large enough to toss in all the junk, is a stunning plaid, will coordinate with all the bold winter colors and who doesn’t love that monogram smack dab in the middle…?!?

No worries, if you aren’t a fan of the mono…turns out you can order it plain jane and that beautiful supple cognac color will take you places!

Photo: Marley Lilly

(3) Cheers Pajamas – I am currently wearing these as I type this and if I’m being honest, I have no plans to change into anything else until the weather is above 50 degrees.  HAVE YOU EVER IN YOUR LIFE?!?  This weather is intense to say the very least…

I love these because the fabric is just thick enough without creating that dreaded sweat situation soon after putting them on.  AND, that print.  All. The. Heart. Eyes.

Cheers is my word for 2018, so these could not have been more perfect for ya girl 😉

Photo: Target

(4) Plaid Loafers – Is there anything more comfortable than a pair of slippers…I mean loafers 😉 ?  And is there a pair more stunning than these bad boys?!?  I seriously cannot wait to rock these the second I get them in with a white turtleneck and my red trench coat!  Oh my stars!  These things make my heart flutter just a bit!

Photo: Marley Lilly

Loafers: HERE

(5) The Quilted Vest – Shocker.  Does anyone see a trend forming here?  If you want to make me happy, it’s SO simple.  Quilted material.  Plaid material.  And a monogram.  Done. Done. And Done.

These are perfect for the crazy weather we’ve had lately.  They are a perfect layering piece that you can shed once the morning bone-chilling temps subside and the balmy afternoon looms in around 3.

Pearl Girl

#WardrobeWednesday

Pearl Girl

Sweater: Red Dress Boutique

Jeans: NY & Company

Shoes: Forever21

Confession: I am SO hyped that the “no-white-after-labor-day” rule is finally behind us.

Not surprisingly, I never really followed the silly rule anyway, but it feels nice to have that support of the fashion “gods” these days 😉

My new fave outfit staple for winter is white jeans.

They pop so much more in winter.  Not sure why?  Maybe because most people are still a little leery of the white is ok now philosophy.

Others just aren’t down with the white game.  And I feel you girl.  You do you.

But this girl is here for it.  All. day. long.

As I mentioned one or fifteen times over the last few weeks, it snowed in Bama a few weeks back taking us all by surprise.

Sunnies: J Crew Outlet (sold out…bummer), but somewhat similar HERE

But that white powdery stuff was just glorious and we had the best time.

I had to pull out my fave pearl sweater and sky high pumps to really amp up my snow luxuriousness. HA!

I mean who walks around in heels in the snow?  NOT THIS GIRL.  But, I traveled to somewhere I could walk indoors, people 😉

Can we talk about how much of a Manolo Blanik identical copy these beauties are?!?  These are my Carrie Bradshaw moment, friends.  She would be so proud 😉

I am SO tempted to run back and get the black version as well, but pink felt more like a statement piece, so I’ll stick with these for now.

Those sunglasses are just my absolute fave pair ever.  I feel like Jackie O would really dig these, so your girl is all about them, too.

They really pop in a subtle way to add that extra oompf to your look.  And I got these for under $ 10!!!  I know! I see you Black Friday sales!!!

Here’s hoping that Bama can get another snow day this winter.  Because what is better than building snowmen all day and then curling up by the fire with a big ole bowl of piping hot chili at night?

Answer: very few things 😉

Christmas Cape Chic

#WardrobeWednesday

Christmas Cape Chic

Cape: Red Dress Boutique

Jeans: NY & Company

Turtleneck: Forever21

I have vivid dreams of a white Christmas.

And we alllmost got one this year…IN ALABAMA of all places!!

Just a few weeks ago, Birmingham got up to 5 and 6 inches in some spots of the most beautiful, perfectly fluffy snow.

And this snow baby could not have been more excited…

Sunnies: J Crew Factory

Naturally, the kids wanted to get out in it immediately, so we spent some time building a snowman affectionately named, “Big John.”

I can’t make this stuff up, people…

And while I was out there living out my childhood dreams, I dreamt up the perfect little get up for days like these when it’s just too cold to worry about lookin’ cute.

That’s when it hit me…A CAPE!

They are effortless and chic.  You can drape it over pajamas for goodness sake and no one would even know!

Plus, if you get a fun enough print, it can serve as your whole outfit.

I paired my cape with some awesome boots that I found years ago.  But, I noticed that DSW has a great selection this year if you are looking to add to your boot wardrobe! 😉

I also think this little get up would be perfect for all the Christmas and holiday activities comin’ up the next few weeks.  Just throw this little number on and out the door you go!

If you need me, I will be snuggling up with my kiddos, sippin’ hot chocolate and starin’ out the window praying for the next round of snow!! 😉

Day to Evening Outfit Deets

#WardrobeWednesday

Day to Evening Outfit Deets

Dress: Old, but very similar HERE

Necklace: Forever21

Have you started receiving holiday party invites?

Mine seem to be trickling in with greater gusto as the days go on…

And one of the questions I am most often asked is how to turn a day time look into evening with ease…SO, I figured now would be as good a time as any so you can be prepared for that annual office cocktail party!

Shoes: HERE

(AND, if you are reading this on 11/27/2017 – you can get these for an extra 50% off today making them ONLY $32!!)

The struggle with work to cocktail wear is that they are often two totally different looks.

During the day, we typically dress more conservatively than at night.  Meaning, low cut tops and short dresses probably aren’t going to make the cut for the 9-5 gig.

BUT, if you can ever find that perfect dress that fits you like a glove (without being overly exhibitionistic), and turns all the heads in a positive rather than catholic-school-girl-gone-wrong kinda way, you’ve found the unicorn we’ve all been looking for.

Well, I’m pretty confident in saying: I think I’ve found one, friends…

This dress with its flirty hemline and structured fabric, will have heads turning when you’re comin’

and when you’re goin’…

And if you pop it with a super fun printed pump, you’ve upped the wow factor even more!

Flouncing Into Fall

#WardrobeWednesday

Flouncing Into Fall

Jumpsuit: HERE

Leopard Heels: HERE

Sunnies: HERE

Is anybody else layered up this morning?  Whew!  It is cold here in Bham!  Fall has finally arrived.

But, the best thing about Fall in the south is that by afternoon, the weather is absolutely perfect.

This past weekend was no different.  We loved getting out and enjoying the beauty all around us!

Bama Belle all the way, friends.

This past weekend, I took the kiddos out for a tour of some of the iconic spots in our town.

Amongst other fun things, we spent a good bit of time oohing and ahhing over the legendary Alabama Theatre Sign.

We’ve seen this sign so many times before, but something about having the whole street pretty much to yourself on a quiet weekend makes it magical.

Confession: we stood in the middle of the street and pretended like we owned the place.

#NoRegrets.

In fact, wherever you are from, take a weekend and go explore your own town.

Stand in the middle of the street and act like you run the show.

Because who is going to tell you that you don’t…?  Except for that policeman posted up outside the landmarks…but as it turns out, these guys are super awesome and kind.

Not tellin’ you how I know this.  Just trust me

I promise you won’t be disappointed by the rush this little activity gives you.

And next time I’m drivin’ downtown on a slow weekend day, I promise not to run over you as you bask in all your glory! 😉

If you are from Alabama, you may have heard that this iconic sign is about to be removed and the actual original sign will take its place.

SO…if you want some memories with this beauty, get out and snag some pics while you can!

I love this red ruffle number.  Is anyone really surprised?!?

With the holidays right around the corner, this look would be perfect for a holiday party, cocktail party or night out on the town!

I paired this look with my all time fave leopard heels for that extra special pop.

Because, don’t forget… leopard is a neutral! 😉

I didn’t choose to wear any earring with this so I wouldn’t take away from the drama of those red ruffles!

But you could totally rock any pair you wanted with this, even another pop of color if you wish!

This whole outfit came in for under $ 60!  And the best part is that those leopard pumps will get put to realllly good use now that those temps have plunged.

In fact, they may even show up next week… 😉

One Shoulder Wonder

#WardrobeWednesday

One Shoulder Wonder

Shirt: Le Tote

Ankle Jeans: J Brand

Bangle: Kendra Scott

Sunnies: Charming Charlie

Heels: Jessica Simpson

Purse: Boutique Find

Those Fall temps are finally rollin’ in…

But, I’m not quite ready to drape myself in oversized cardigans and layers upon layers.  Is anybody with me?!?

So, I decided to play around with an all year ’round look and came up with a one shoulder / ankle jean combo!

Side note: I also think this would be a killer frock for a July 4th function, too.  HA!  Thus, the title One Shoulder WONDER! Because you can wear it all. year. long!!

The one shoulder really draws attention to your face, so you can play around with fun accessories such as statement earrings, sunglasses, etc.

I love when looks appear very “styled.”  Meaning they look effortlessly put together, and you can tell they “go” together.

This outfit could not have been easier to accomplish that goal.  With that vibrant stripe of red, I played off of that and coordinated my accessories accordingly.

Always look for a bold color in your frock, and pop it out with your accessories…one of the easiest ways to make a look stand out and appear “styled.”

But also, remember the “3 is too many” rule.  For example, with my look, I went with two big “pops” of color.

Had I added a bright red belt or statement necklace, my outfit would’ve looked overdone.  But, by keeping it to two big “POPs” it doesn’t scream busy and overwhelming.

Plus, you are really giving those two pieces their individual chance to shine.

I’ve been having a little too much fun exploring my city lately.  Have any of you taken a weekend to just explore your town?

I find that my city influences my style a good bit.  In Birmingham, we have so many vibrant gardens and lush flower sanctuaries near the city center.  It really adds color to our everyday life.

But, I love that Birmingham is also known for it’s focus on industrial growth and city structure, which I feel influences my business-y looking frocks quite a bit.

Plus, you can’t help but spot a pearl necklace or gold accent anywhere you go in this town!

Let your surroundings inspire you to find some fun pieces you maybe never thought you’d want to rock!

What is your go-to look?  For example, if someone says “Swing by for dinner tonight?”  Do you automatically become frozen with the fear of “What will I wear?”  Dressy or Casual?

Well, this outfit seems like it would be a pretty easy go-to for all those last minute calls.

If you don’t want to rock the heels, you could easily sub in a red flat.

But, can you even get over these power heels?!?  I call these my Power Pumps!  I put them on and instantly feel like I’m ready to Super-Woman take over the world!  Jessica Simpson outdid herself with these things:

As far as hairstyles, I decided to leave mine down in loose curls.  But, you could totally rock a side pony, high or low bun or low pony and rock this look, too!

If you do choose to wear your hair up, always remember to add an earring (especially if you have pierced ears).  Another quick and easy way to spice up this look!

NOTE: As always, sharing fashion inspiration with y’all is super fun, but please remember most importantly, that true beauty is found within : “[T]he Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16
