Flouncing Into Fall

Jumpsuit: HERE

Leopard Heels: HERE

Sunnies: HERE

Is anybody else layered up this morning?  Whew!  It is cold here in Bham!  Fall has finally arrived.

But, the best thing about Fall in the south is that by afternoon, the weather is absolutely perfect.

This past weekend was no different.  We loved getting out and enjoying the beauty all around us!

Bama Belle all the way, friends.

This past weekend, I took the kiddos out for a tour of some of the iconic spots in our town.

Amongst other fun things, we spent a good bit of time oohing and ahhing over the legendary Alabama Theatre Sign.

We’ve seen this sign so many times before, but something about having the whole street pretty much to yourself on a quiet weekend makes it magical.

Confession: we stood in the middle of the street and pretended like we owned the place.

#NoRegrets.

In fact, wherever you are from, take a weekend and go explore your own town.

Stand in the middle of the street and act like you run the show.

Because who is going to tell you that you don’t…?  Except for that policeman posted up outside the landmarks…but as it turns out, these guys are super awesome and kind.

Not tellin’ you how I know this.  Just trust me

I promise you won’t be disappointed by the rush this little activity gives you.

And next time I’m drivin’ downtown on a slow weekend day, I promise not to run over you as you bask in all your glory! 😉

If you are from Alabama, you may have heard that this iconic sign is about to be removed and the actual original sign will take its place.

SO…if you want some memories with this beauty, get out and snag some pics while you can!

I love this red ruffle number.  Is anyone really surprised?!?

With the holidays right around the corner, this look would be perfect for a holiday party, cocktail party or night out on the town!

I paired this look with my all time fave leopard heels for that extra special pop.

Because, don’t forget… leopard is a neutral! 😉

I didn’t choose to wear any earring with this so I wouldn’t take away from the drama of those red ruffles!

But you could totally rock any pair you wanted with this, even another pop of color if you wish!

This whole outfit came in for under $ 60!  And the best part is that those leopard pumps will get put to realllly good use now that those temps have plunged.

In fact, they may even show up next week… 😉

One Shoulder Wonder

#WardrobeWednesday

One Shoulder Wonder

Shirt: Le Tote

Ankle Jeans: J Brand

Bangle: Kendra Scott

Sunnies: Charming Charlie

Heels: Jessica Simpson

Purse: Boutique Find

Those Fall temps are finally rollin’ in…

But, I’m not quite ready to drape myself in oversized cardigans and layers upon layers.  Is anybody with me?!?

So, I decided to play around with an all year ’round look and came up with a one shoulder / ankle jean combo!

Side note: I also think this would be a killer frock for a July 4th function, too.  HA!  Thus, the title One Shoulder WONDER! Because you can wear it all. year. long!!

The one shoulder really draws attention to your face, so you can play around with fun accessories such as statement earrings, sunglasses, etc.

I love when looks appear very “styled.”  Meaning they look effortlessly put together, and you can tell they “go” together.

This outfit could not have been easier to accomplish that goal.  With that vibrant stripe of red, I played off of that and coordinated my accessories accordingly.

Always look for a bold color in your frock, and pop it out with your accessories…one of the easiest ways to make a look stand out and appear “styled.”

But also, remember the “3 is too many” rule.  For example, with my look, I went with two big “pops” of color.

Had I added a bright red belt or statement necklace, my outfit would’ve looked overdone.  But, by keeping it to two big “POPs” it doesn’t scream busy and overwhelming.

Plus, you are really giving those two pieces their individual chance to shine.

I’ve been having a little too much fun exploring my city lately.  Have any of you taken a weekend to just explore your town?

I find that my city influences my style a good bit.  In Birmingham, we have so many vibrant gardens and lush flower sanctuaries near the city center.  It really adds color to our everyday life.

But, I love that Birmingham is also known for it’s focus on industrial growth and city structure, which I feel influences my business-y looking frocks quite a bit.

Plus, you can’t help but spot a pearl necklace or gold accent anywhere you go in this town!

Let your surroundings inspire you to find some fun pieces you maybe never thought you’d want to rock!

What is your go-to look?  For example, if someone says “Swing by for dinner tonight?”  Do you automatically become frozen with the fear of “What will I wear?”  Dressy or Casual?

Well, this outfit seems like it would be a pretty easy go-to for all those last minute calls.

If you don’t want to rock the heels, you could easily sub in a red flat.

But, can you even get over these power heels?!?  I call these my Power Pumps!  I put them on and instantly feel like I’m ready to Super-Woman take over the world!  Jessica Simpson outdid herself with these things:

As far as hairstyles, I decided to leave mine down in loose curls.  But, you could totally rock a side pony, high or low bun or low pony and rock this look, too!

If you do choose to wear your hair up, always remember to add an earring (especially if you have pierced ears).  Another quick and easy way to spice up this look!

Le-Tote-ally Lovin’ This Green

Le-Tote-ally Lovin’ This Green

Dress: Badgley Mischka for Le Tote

Well, we are still rockin’ those 80 and 90 degree temps here in Bama, friends…

And after I got over my never-ending desire for grilled cheese / chili / hot chocolate / nights by the fire, I realized I am fine with it, actually.

Spring / Summer style is so vibrant and fun.  I could rock it all year long.

So, here is another one of my fave looks for those warmer temps during Summall (Summer + Fall = Summall for those of you just joining us here 😉 )

I give this look extra kudos for it’s flowy ruffles and vibrant hue.  You could rock this evergreen all year long!

Plus, I LOVE that this look is flirty in the front, but gives you plenty of coverage in the back!  Kinda one of my two-fer looks that I always tend to gravitate towards…

The neckline of this dress is also nice because it provides you a perfect palette to show off your latest statement piece.

OR you could rock a dramatic earring!  Your choice.

I chose a classic gold chain with an oversized pearl to finish off my look here.

But, a vibrant statement necklace would’ve been equally as cool!

I actually had this dress mailed to me by a company called Le Tote.

Le Tote is one of the newer concierge stylist subscription box services.

I simply signed up, took a style preference test, and within minutes a representative contacted me to “approve” my tote.

Honest engine: I didn’t keep a single thing from the first attempt.  BUT, that’s what I LOVE about Le Tote!

Once their stylists give it a go, you can go in and change everything up!  It’s like online shopping on steroids!!

Their selection is incredible (all different sizes, styles, accessories, etc.)

Le Tote has several different subscription options, but at the very least, you get 3 apparel pieces and 2 accessories with each box.

I chose to carefully curate mine so that I would have several looks!

The red, white and blue shirt and denim ankle pants look is coming up next week 😉

Then, the best part is, once you’ve worn your looks, you simply throw them in a pre-stamped package and toss them in the mail at no cost to you!

But, if you particularly love a certain piece, keep it and Le Tote will charge your card on file for 50% off retail cost!  How awesome (and convenient) is that?!?

To finish off my look, I chose one of my favorite pairs of heels…I snagged these years ago at Target during one of their famous capsule collections.

These things go with everything and are surprisingly comfy…

Next time, I’m planning to rock a leopard pump with this look!

I gotta say, all these subscription boxes are making my life a little too easy…HA!

But at least I’m making really great friends with our mail-woman! 😉

Palazzo Party

#WardrobeWednesday

Palazzo Party

Top: Red Dress Boutique

Pants: HERE

Word on the street is that palazzo pants are word on the street, friends…

See what I did there…  In the photo I’m …on the street….

Moving on.

In all seriousness, these wide leg sensations have made a comeback. So, of course, I had to figure out a way to style a pair southern belle style, y’all.

Just add this ruffle top and you are ready for that board meeting…ok, let’s get real… your dream Southern Living shoot 😉

I’ve never met a ruffle I didn’t like.

Well, that’s not entirely true.  I have seen some ruffled table linens that were less than appealing…

But, fashion wise, ruffles are beautiful and on trend.  HALLELUJAH!

The return of feminine / romantic style makes my heart skip a beat.  There’s just something about the dainty vibe that a ruffle adds…

Paired with palazzos, this look is nailing the trendy femme vibe these days.

I added a subtle nude heel since the rest of the ensemble sort of “stole the show.”

Plus, I didn’t see any need in my feet attempting to compete with the rufflly amazingness…

You know what is extra great about these pants?

They look good on ALL body types.  With their “float away from the body magic,” these will make you comfy in your own skin.  And, can I just remind you: You are gorgeous no matter what you wear 😉 Promise!

I decided half way through the day to throw my hair up.  Mainly because it was 1000 degrees the day I wore this.

But also because that hairstyle did a better job of showing off the ruffles rather than competing with them.

From the back, this shirt almost gives you a wing-like feel.

Which I love, because superheros are in and this is about the fanciest winged superhero look I ever did see 😉

And for those of you who may be wondering about the versatility and real-world- bility of this fancy ruffle…

I successfully wrangled my two feisty toddlers all day with ease.

And, I gotta say…they were quite fond of the “Princess humps” on my shirt 😉

Now, I’m not suggesting we rock this look whilst folding the laundry, but every Momma needs a nice moment out on the town…am I right, ladies?!?

It’s Nice to Have You…In Ruffles and Gingham

It’s Nice to Have You…In Ruffles and Gingham

Shirt: Elizabeth Wilson Designs

Jeans: HERE

Fringe Boots: HERE

Spent some time exploring my city over the last few weeks.  And I gotta say, I fell in love all over again.

Birmingham, AL is full of rich history, gorgeous views and the most incredible people.

It’s so nice to be in Birmingham!

It’s also nice to rock these southern inspired ruffles, gingham and fringe galore!

It’s not often that I literally swoon over a designer.

But, y’all, Elizabeth Wilson can have all my money.  ALL. MY. MONEY.

This sweet one from Kentucky is giving you ruffles, and gingham, and seersucker, and plaid and everything that makes a Southern Belle’s heart leap for joy!

If any of those things remotely appeal to you, please check her out HERE.

Heck, even if none of those things appeal to you, check her designs out!

We are still rocking 90 degrees here in Bama…so, this top is perfect for those in between temps!

The weight of the shirt is thick enough to protect you from a strong breeze.  The print and ruffles make it such a perfect “Welcome to Fall, Y’all” frock 😉

These fringe boots are my fave accessory for Fall.  They tie this look together with a classy cowgirl chic vibe.

Roll Tide, Y’all.  Hope you are having fun in your closets this week.  Hope you enjoyed meeting a new designer this week on the blog.

AND, I hope y’all are ready some super fun fall fashion!

Jump(suit)ing into Fall

#WardrobeWednesday

Jump(suit)ing into Fall

Jumpsuit: Forever21 old, similar HERE; HERE

Shoes: HERE

Friday night, my hubby and I had the privilege of going on a very rare date night.

Praise Jesus.

Am I right?!?

And when these occasions present themselves (THANK YOU G DADDY AND ZSU ZSU), I tend to go all out.

Because, nobody puts Baby in the corner…

So, this weekend I rocked a pink jumpsuit to give one more nod to the dog days of summer.

As an important note, ladies…the sweetheart neckline is your best friend.

And NO, it is not just reserved for your wedding day.

If you are heavy chested, great.

If you have no chest (like me), great.

The way the fabric sits on your chest, it makes any amount of bosom look beautiful.

Who else is googling “sweetheart neckline” right now?!?!?!

Marshall and I explored our town and spent the evening reminding ourselves how much we love Birmingham.

Do you ever do mini staycations in your own city?

It is honestly one of the best ways to make you appreciate all that is around you!

I finished off my look with some nude colored strappy sandals and my fave bangle baubles.

Needless to say, we are counting down for the next time out…

And that nip in the air just as the sun went down made me jump up and down excited for fall!

Cooler air is coming!!

Happy Jump(suit)ing into Fall, Friends!!

Season Shifting Style

#WardrobeWednesday

Season Shifting Style

Dress: MudPie

Shoes: Forever21 – old, but similar HERE

It’s that time of year again!

Football.  Pumpkins.  Seasons changing.  Back to school.  Leaves everywhere.  You know the drill…

All of it is awesome except for the age old question: WHAT DO YOU WEAR WHEN MOTHER NATURE CAN’T MAKE UP HER MIND?!?

The next few weeks are going to be jam packed with wardrobe confusion.

The mornings and late evenings will likely be cool, whereas the days are scalding hot…that is, if you are from the south, of course…. 😉

And, with hurricane season in full swing, there’s really no way to tell what the weather will be from one day to the next.

SO, today, I have put together a frock that is perfect for these exact dilemmas so that you can turn that fashion-fret-frown upside down, girlfriend!

During the “Summall” weeks (as I lovingly call them : Summer + Fall = Summall), you want to add a sleeve to the mix, but keep the texture of the garment light and airy.

Your thick cotton blends, sweaters and cardigans are not quite appropriate just yet.  So sorry to all of you being kept up at night by the excitement of strolling through the pumpkin patch with your pumpkin spice latte warming those beautifully bronzed lips…

We are almost there…

But, until we get there, you can go to town with 3/4 length sleeves, light and airy cardigans and dresses with boots!

I added a wedge to this look to cover my toes, but still leave room for a breeze for the ‘ole tired feet.

I particularly chose this dress because of the interesting detailing around the neckline.  I love a detail, girl.

The ruffles here scream feminine, but I think this look is also business-chic, if I do say so myself.

This means you could totally dominate the board room OR the brunch room in this look!

I also added a belt to cinch the waist just a bit.

Fit is e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.  Am I right, ladies?!?

You can select the most beautiful fabric and design in the world.  But, if that jewel doesn’t fit….well, it’s ain’t workin’ for ya, babe.

Thus, my vehement aversion to mu-mus and tent shirts (as I not-so-lovingly refer to them…just ask my Mom (insert awkward face emoji here))…

You can make shift dresses like these much more figure friendly with a simple belt.

And, by the looks of the runways up in New York this week (Fashion Week is currently going on…cue all the FOMO), belts are HERE TO STAY, FRIENDS!

Black and White Gingham with a Pop of Red

#WardrobeWednesday

Black and White Gingham with a Pop of Red

Top: similar HERE

Ankle Pants: HERE

Ankle Strap Red Heels: similar HERE

As summer comes to a close, our wardrobe has to match the changing of the tides…

Nights get cooler and our shoulders need a bit more coverage.

This gingham top is perfect, because it gives you the warmth you need for those brisk fall nights, but still has a fun summery print.

Because we all know gingham is a #SouthernBelleStaple, y’all!

I paired this with simple black capris and red accessories.

Popping black and white with really any color is a fun way to add a punch to your outfit.

The red here enhances the gingham due to its contrasting style.

I kept the jewelry simple by adding a strand of black beads so as not to take away from my pops of red.

The tie in the front of this shirt is another reason I just had to have it.

I mean, you put gingham AND a bow in one look and I’m sold.  No questions asked.

But, you could tie this bow in the back if you wanted to add a cinched look with less of an overtly dainty appeal.

That’s the fun of style…you can make it fit your preferences and put your own personality on display!

I am particularly excited to rock this look at football games this fall!

The sleeve length and comfy capris will make it perfect for traipsing through the quad and sitting in those stadium seats.

Plus, I can add fun team-specific baubles to show that little extra bit of team spirit pride…

Oh, ROLL TIDE, by the way! 😉

Gone With the Wind Getup

blogaboat8

Dress: Forever21 – old; but love HEREHERE, and HERE

Shoes: HERE

Who doesn’t like to feel like a modern day Princess every now and then?!?

This maxi is giving me life, friends!!

When I wear this dress, I feel regal.  There’s something about the flowy train and off the shoulder mixed with my all-time fave: sweetheart neckline that makes this frock a 10 for me!

blogaboat2

I recently wore this dress on a little sunset boat ride and I have to tell you: I felt very “gone with the wind fabulous… ;)” HA!

The colors are also very vibrant in the fabric, which makes this a stand-out piece for sure.

And just look how it floats in the wind:

blogaboat7

This dress is definitely for a night out on the town and not-so-much for a weekend shopping trip to Target, but hey girl YOU DO YOU!  If you wanna rock this on your next grocery shopping outing, I am gonna stand by you 100% 😉

blogaboat4

I paired my look with some on-trend pink tassel earrings that I felt really upped the drama factor!

Plus, these sunnies were a must to complete the look.

For a finishing touch, I added two statement bangle bracelets.

The one with pearl embellishments on each end, I found on Zulily years ago!  Total knockoff and you’d never know!

The second one with the intricate gold detailing is Kendra Scott (which I got for an incredible deal at a recent Color Bar party one of my dear friends invited me to!)

So, ladies.  Why not add a little number like this to your wardrobe for those nights when making a statement is just the vibe you need… 😉
